Book Presentation: “The Minerals of Lavrion”

The School of Mining and Metallurgical Engineering and the Mineralogical Museum gaio-ORAMA is hosting the presentation of the book “The Minerals of Lavrion”, published by the Lavreotiki Research Company, on Friday, December 20 at 18.00. This is the updated English version of the book by N. Vourlakos and M. Fitros, subsidized by the Ministry of Culture and Sports, for most of the 750 unique minerals of Lavrio.

The speakers of the event will share with the audience anecdotal stories and personal experiences, framed by beautiful images, research for new minerals in the tunnels of Lavrio, the thrill of discovery and the adventure of recognition. They will refer to minerals that were discovered, for the first time, in Lavrio, such as Serpierite, Lavrionite, Kamarizaite, Atticite and Hilarionite but also in minerals that exist in Lavrio, in their most beautiful form, such as Smithsonite and Adamite. They will present minerals that adorn Museums around the world and are a valuable part of the world geological heritage, minerals that wait patiently, in a “lavra” (mining tunnel) of the Mecca of Mineralogists, to be discovered and added to a list that never ends.
